Yes! Many states offer programs that allow family members to be compensated for providing in-home care to a loved one who qualifies. These programs recognize the essential work caregivers already do every day. This program goes through FSSA Older Americans Act/Family Caregiver Support.

In many cases, a family member such as a child, spouse, or other relative can qualify as a paid caregiver. You may qualify to be a paid caregiver if:

• You live with a person you're providing care for

• Are 18 years or older

• The PATIENT is on Medicaid Waiver

• The PATIENT needs help with one or more daily living activity

Yes. The Caregiver and Patient must live together under the same roof.

NO! This is considered a stipend and is not considered income. This stipend is TAX-FREE.

The state of Indiana (Maximus) will determine what level of care each patient is (Level 1, 2, or 3). Level of care will determine amount of pay.

Some caregivers may be eligible to receive up to $29,143/year tax-free.

If we think a patient may require additional care when we complete our monthly visits, FAM-AID can request a re-assessment of the level of care through the state to determine if you may qualify for additional funds based on needs.

Weekly! Your tax-free money will be deposited into your bank account electronically every Friday.

Yes, some caregivers continue to work part-time or full-time while providing care.

The Structured Family Caregiver Program is only available to people who are on the Medicaid WAIVER. This is different than Medicaid.

FAM-AID only offers services in the state of Indiana. Though, many other states do offer similar Paid Caregiver programs.

No! Eligibility is determined by needs for daily living activities.

To receive payment through Indiana's Structured Family Caregiver Program, families must work with a certified, state-licensed Medicaid Waiver provider.

FAM-AID fulfills this role.

In addition to billing Medicaid and ensuring caregivers are paid on a regular basis, FAM-AID helps families remain fully compliant with Indiana’s program requirements. The state of Indiana requires ongoing communication, documentation, and periodic Registered Nurse visits as part of the Structured Family Caregiver Program.

FAM-AID coordinates and provides all of these required services, so families can focus on caregiving without worrying about missing steps or paperwork.

Timelines vary based on county and the state of Indiana. If you are deemed eligible for the program, you can begin getting paid in as soon as 21 days. However, this process may take longer depending on external circumstances outside of our control.

Patients not currently on Medicaid Waiver will have to go through that process first.

Once deemed eligible Cary Hammond, owner of FAM-AID, will make an in-person visit to your home so he can personally walk you through the process.

He will work with you to complete all required paperwork for compliancy and bank information for payment. He will also complete a home survey to see how FAM-AID may be able to assist with any home modification needs.

You can contact your local Area Agency on Aging to ask for a list of approved Structured Family Caregiver providers. FAM-AID is on that list and ready to help!
